Biesse recently acquired Orchestra Srl, an Italian developer of digital manufacturing software, as part of the company's strategy to expand intelligent production solutions for the woodworking and advanced manufacturing industries.
The acquisition strengthens Biesse's manufacturing execution system (MES) capabilities by adding software designed to connect machinery, monitor production in real time and optimize factory workflows. The company said the move supports its broader 2026-2028 strategy to deliver more connected, data-driven manufacturing environments.
Orchestra develops software platforms that enable manufacturers to integrate production equipment, centralize operational data and automate scheduling across both single-brand and multi-brand machinery environments. According to Biesse, the technology allows production to automatically adapt to incoming orders while improving machine utilization, increasing operational visibility and reducing manufacturing costs.
For manufacturers across the surface and panel industry, the acquisition reflects the continued evolution of factory automation beyond individual machines. As manufacturers increasingly adopt connected production environments, MES platforms are becoming central to integrating CNC equipment, material handling, production scheduling and plant-wide performance monitoring.

The acquisition also expands Biesse's software capabilities across its woodworking, glass, stone, metal and advanced materials businesses, allowing customers to manage production from individual work cells to fully integrated manufacturing facilities through a centralized platform.
North American manufacturers will have an opportunity to see the technology firsthand during IWF 2026, where Biesse plans to demonstrate Orchestra's digital platform alongside its B/On and SmartConnect technologies. Live demonstrations at Booth B7535 will showcase machine connectivity, real-time production monitoring and factory management tools designed to improve efficiency and simplify operations.
The acquisition underscores a broader trend across the woodworking and panel manufacturing industries, where equipment suppliers are increasingly pairing machinery with software, automation and analytics to help manufacturers improve productivity, optimize workflows and support smart factory initiatives.
