Richelieu Hardware Ltd. is investing more than $15 million to expand its Drummondville, Quebec, distribution centre, increasing the facility from nearly 40,000 square feet to approximately 180,000 square feet.
The expansion is designed to support Richelieu’s continued growth and increase distribution capacity serving Montreal’s South Shore, the Quebec City region and its South Shore, Centre-du-Québec and the Eastern Townships.
“Richelieu has been growing for several decades, and this investment in Drummondville gives us the means to keep building on that momentum,” said Richard Lord, president and CEO of Richelieu. “By expanding our distribution centre from 40,000 to 180,000 square feet, we are significantly strengthening our ability to serve our customers while continuing to invest in Quebec.”
The project officially broke ground September 3 at Richelieu’s Alfred-Nobel Street site in Drummondville. Construction will be handled by Guimond Construction and fully funded by Richelieu.
The expanded facility is expected to become operational in spring 2027.
The Drummondville investment is part of a broader North American growth strategy for Richelieu, which has also continued expanding in the United States.
The company recently announced the acquisition of the hardware division of The Penrod Company, a U.S. distributor of hardware and components for residential and commercial doors. Richelieu said the transaction is expected to add approximately US$70 million in annual sales and further strengthen its U.S. distribution presence.
The acquisition will bring Richelieu’s distribution network to 131 centres.
Richelieu is a North American importer, manufacturer and distributor of specialty hardware and complementary products serving kitchen and bath cabinet manufacturers, closet and storage companies, furniture manufacturers, residential and commercial woodworkers, door and window manufacturers and hardware retailers.
The company offers more than 145,000 products to a customer base exceeding 120,000 active customers across North America.
