Hexagon has acquired Planit Canada, a move that expands Hexagon’s direct presence in the Canadian woodworking market while reinforcing its investment in the digital technologies increasingly driving cabinet and casegoods manufacturing.

The acquisition integrates Planit Canada into Hexagon’s Production Software Division, strengthening support for users of Cabinet Vision and creating new growth opportunities for Alphacam across Canada.

For woodworking manufacturers already working with Planit Canada, however, the message is one of continuity.

“The same people, the same mission, and even more resources to help Canadian manufacturers be awesome,” Planit Canada stated in announcing the transition.

The company emphasized that customers will continue working with the same sales representatives, trainers, technical support specialists and customer success teams they have relied on for years.

“Our commitment to Canadian manufacturers remains unchanged,” the company said. “The same people are here, answering emails, delivering training, supporting your software, and helping you solve production challenges every day.”

Founded in 2008, Planit Canada has become one of the woodworking industry’s leading technology partners in Canada, helping manufacturers connect design, engineering and production through software solutions including Cabinet Vision, Alphacam, WEB-CAB and Vortek Spaces. The company is also recognized as the world’s second-largest reseller of Cabinet Vision.

According to Hexagon, bringing Planit Canada in-house will allow the company to work more directly with customers while strengthening local technical expertise and expanding access to its broader software portfolio.

“Planit Canada has played an important role in building Cabinet Vision’s presence in the Canadian woodworking market, and we are pleased to welcome the team to Hexagon,” said Drew Rogers, Senior Vice President of Strategy & Merger and Acquisitions, Manufacturing Intelligence Business Area, and Senior Vice President of Alphacam and Cabinet Vision.

“Their customer relationships, technical knowledge and long-standing partnership with Hexagon will strengthen our ability to support manufacturers more directly and help more businesses connect design, preparation and production with confidence.”

Closer Access to Product Development

For Cabinet Vision and Alphacam users, one of the most significant implications may be increased access to the software development process.

Planit Canada noted that joining Hexagon provides a more direct connection to the teams responsible for product strategy and development.

“Joining Hexagon gives us closer access to the teams responsible for product strategy and software development,” the company said. “This strengthens our ability to advocate for Canadian customers, share feedback directly, and stay aligned with future product developments.”

The move reflects a broader trend within the surface and panel industry as software providers seek tighter integration between developers and end users. As manufacturers navigate labor shortages, rising customization demands and increasing pressure to improve efficiency, digital platforms that connect design, engineering and production have become critical competitive tools.

No Immediate Changes for Customers

Planit Canada addressed several questions surrounding the transition, emphasizing that customers should expect business as usual.

The company confirmed that:

  • Existing support contacts remain unchanged.
  • Current maintenance agreements will continue without immediate modifications.
  • Bilingual support in both English and French will remain available.
  • No immediate changes are planned for software, training or service offerings.
  • Canadian operations will continue as before.

“Our relationship with Hexagon is not new,” Planit Canada said. “We have worked together for decades through Cabinet Vision, and more recently through Alphacam. This next step is a natural evolution of that long-standing partnership and reflects a shared commitment to helping manufacturers work smarter, grow confidently, and get more value from their technology investments.”

Looking Ahead

For nearly two decades, Planit Canada has focused on helping woodworking businesses improve productivity, reduce errors and streamline workflows through technology adoption.

“We believe technology should help people spend less time fighting processes and more time doing what they do best: building beautiful products, growing successful businesses, and enjoying the lives they’ve worked hard to create,” the company said.

“That mission isn’t changing.”

By combining Planit Canada’s established customer relationships and woodworking expertise with Hexagon’s global resources and software development capabilities, the acquisition signals continued investment in the technologies shaping the future of cabinet, furniture and architectural woodworking manufacturing.

Hexagon employs approximately 17,000 people across 50 countries and reported annual net sales of approximately €3.7 billion. Planit Canada’s team will continue serving customers nationwide as part of Hexagon’s Production Software Division.
