Architectural materials supplier Parkwood Chicago is marking its 70th anniversary with a series of strategic changes, including new ownership, expanded sales leadership and investments in its digital presence.
Founded in 1956, Parkwood Chicago supplies architectural materials and interior surface solutions to the commercial design community throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and surrounding states.
Among the company's recent developments is the appointment of Chris Janson as sales manager. Janson brings extensive experience in architectural materials, most recently with 3form, and previously held leadership roles with Bentley Prince Street. He joins Parkwood's sales team supporting architects, designers and manufacturers across the Midwest.
The company has also launched a redesigned website featuring its portfolio of architectural surface and interior material brands, including Chemetal, Kerfkore, Treefrog Veneer, Lab Design Laminates, ALPI/Brookside, InteriorArts, Parklex Prodema and Felt Right Acoustical. In addition to updating its online presence, Parkwood said it has invested in new software systems and internal processes to improve customer service and operational efficiency.
A significant milestone for the company came earlier this year when Chemetal, the Easthampton, Massachusetts-based manufacturer and distributor of decorative metal laminates and architectural metal designs, acquired Parkwood Chicago. The transition follows more than 25 years of partnership between the two companies.
"Parkwood Chicago is an important Midwest sales channel for Chemetal," said Geoff Schaefer, president and creative director of Chemetal. "The team there knows the material well and has a great reputation for providing excellent service and fair pricing. We hope that our second-generation family-owned business can continue that tradition into the future with all of Parkwood's product lines."
For manufacturers and suppliers across the surface and panel industry, the announcement reflects continued investment in architectural surface materials and specification-driven product distribution. As demand grows for decorative metals, wood veneers, laminates, acoustical materials and other specialty interior finishes, distributors with established design relationships continue to play an important role in connecting manufacturers with the commercial interiors market.
