Wren Kitchens Shuts Down U.S. Operations, Files Chapter 7 Bankruptcy; 15+ Showrooms Closed Including Home Depot Locations

Abrupt closure of Wren’s U.S. business unit leaves customers in limbo, triggers WARN Act lawsuit, and underscores ongoing volatility in the retail and kitchen cabinetry market.

Wren Kitchens has ceased all U.S. operations and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, closing more than 15 retail showrooms and in-store studios across the East Coast — including locations inside Home Depot stores.

The U.K.-based kitchen retailer confirmed the immediate shutdown of its American business unit on April 23, 2026, marking a sudden end to its expansion efforts in the U.S. market. The closures impacted standalone showrooms as well as branded studio spaces within The Home Depot locations, effectively dissolving a partnership launched just last year.

Customers visiting Wren’s U.S. website were met with a brief notice announcing the closures and directing inquiries to a support link, offering little clarity for orders already in progress. Meanwhile, Home Depot stated it had no advance notice of the shutdown and is assessing how to support affected customers.

Immediate Shutdown Raises Concerns

The company’s exit was executed without a phased wind-down, with employees reportedly informed of the closures during a company-wide Zoom call. The sudden nature of the shutdown has disrupted projects, supply chains, and customer installations tied to Wren’s U.S. operations.

Court filings indicate that Wren’s U.S. subsidiary pursued Chapter 7 liquidation, signaling a full wind-down rather than restructuring. The company cited an inability to make its American business financially viable.

The abrupt closure has also led to legal action. Former employees have filed a class-action lawsuit alleging violations of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act), which requires employers with more than 100 employees to provide 60 days’ notice ahead of mass layoffs. Plaintiffs claim no such notice was given prior to the shutdown.

Impact on the Market

While Wren Kitchens continues to operate in the United Kingdom, the collapse of its U.S. division highlights the challenges international brands face when entering the highly competitive North American kitchen and cabinetry sector.

For fabricators, suppliers, and design professionals, the closure serves as a reminder of shifting dynamics in retail distribution, strategic partnerships, and consumer demand — particularly as economic pressures continue to influence purchasing behavior and project timelines.

The sudden exit also raises broader questions about the stability of retail-driven cabinetry sales models and the risks associated with rapid expansion through showroom networks and big-box collaborations.
