Architectural woodworkers, design-build professionals, and educators seeking a consolidated resource of all 14 AWI and AWI/ANSI Standards developed to date now have a new printed publication, AWI Standards 2026, recently released by the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI).
“This is the first time since 2016 that AWI has published all of its updated AWI-produced woodwork standards in one 433-page publication,” said AWI CEO Doug Hague.

The book covers 10 ANSI (American National Standards Institute)-accredited woodwork standards developed by AWI: Factory Finishing, Finish Carpentry/Installation, Architectural Wood Casework, Manufactured Wood Casework, Countertops, Millwork & Wood Trim, Wood Paneling, Specialty Casework, plus Wood Stair, Handrail, and Guard Systems developed with the Stairbuilders and Manufacturers Association. As an ANSI-accredited Standards Developer Organization, AWI created these performance-based, public-consensus standards under the strict guidelines and open process required for American National Standards.
Four stand-alone AWI Standards also included in AWI Standards 2026 are: Submittals, Care and Storage, Materials, and Historical Restoration of Architectural Woodwork.
The color-coded AWI Standards 2026 book also explains the importance of the ANSI accreditation process. “Users will also find Supplemental Material provided as an additional resource to the manufacturer, design professional, educator, user, or certifying organization. The additional material includes information about AWI iS (Industry Solutions), testing procedures, testing reports, humidity, and consolidated information for design professionals,” Hague said. Photographs of AWI Standards of Excellence (SOE) award-winning projects illustrate fine architectural woodwork produced by AWI Manufacturing Member honorees.
As in the past, all of the AWI and AWI/ANSI Standards remain available with free access online as a useful tool for reference in the field and for easy update by AWI in real time. The consolidated book is available for purchase at https://awinet.org.
Plans call for updating AWI Standards 2026 annually as a service to the industry.
