The race for one of the woodworking industry’s most prestigious innovation awards is officially underway.

Organizers of IWF 2026 have announced the 20 finalists for the IWF Challengers Distinguished Achievement Award, selected from an initial field of 84 entries submitted by 65 exhibiting companies. The finalists represent some of the latest advancements in automation, machinery, software integration, tooling and production efficiency designed to transform wood products manufacturing.

Finalists will present live demonstrations to a panel of judges on Monday, Aug. 25, one day before IWF officially opens in Atlanta. Based on those demonstrations, judges will select seven winners, which will be announced at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, near the Challengers Award Gallery on Level 2 of Building B.

Long regarded as one of the industry’s most respected innovation competitions, the IWF Challengers Distinguished Achievement Award recognizes products, technologies and manufacturing techniques that have the potential to significantly advance woodworking and related industries. The finalists often provide an early glimpse into the trends shaping the future of cabinetmaking, architectural millwork, furniture production and panel processing.

This year’s finalists reflect many of the manufacturing priorities currently driving investment across the surface and panel industry, including robotic automation, labor-saving technologies, flexible production, material optimization and improvements in finishing and assembly operations.
