2019 World of Wood Convention to Feature Panel on the State of the Trade War

Presentations and Panel Discussion Will Arm World of Wood Attendees with the Latest Insights on Trade Agreements and Trade Enforcement

Alexandria, Virginia – The ongoing trade war has left the imported wood products market facing continued uncertainty. It is a critical time to keep up on the latest policy and market developments that will have a direct impact on sourcing and sales. To help wood products traders navigate these uncertain waters, today International Wood Products Association Executive Director Cindy Squires announced a session at the upcoming 2019 World of Wood Convention titled “The Trade War, Trade Agreements, and Trade Enforcement: Making Sense of It All.” The annual convention hosted IWPA will take place April 3-5, 2019, at the stunning Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona.

This session will feature presentations from leading voices in wood trade legal and regulatory compliance about what wood traders need to keep in mind as they navigate this trade war. Squires will give an overview of the current state of global trade as the Trump Administration looks to rebalance global trade through new deals such as the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Attorney Jeff Grimson, a Partner at the leading trade law firm Mowry & Grimson PLLC, will discuss recent developments in the trade enforcement space, especially with respect to China Hardwood Plywood AD/CVD, Enforce and Protect Act, and Section 301. Sam Witten, Counsel at the global law firm Arnold & Porter, will discuss recent developments of interest to wood importers with respect to forced labor and sanctions enforcement.

An understanding of the state of the trade war will be critical for wood products producers, importers, and users as they navigate the new global trade paradigm.
