Toppan Interamerica, a leading global printer of innovative decorative surfaces, announced that their KIRI Paper Veneer Product has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot 2023 Award for Product Design.

The Red Dot Award is one of the world’s largest and most renowned design competitions, attracting thousands of entries from around the globe each year. The award recognizes products that demonstrate outstanding design and innovation and are deemed the best in their respective categories.

KIRI is stainable, paper-based, high-resolution wood grain printed on specialized decor paper. The paper is then treated with a water-base coating system that accepts wood stains and finishes exactly like wood veneer. This alone is a significant innovation, but it’s the subtleties that make it even more remarkable: KIRI has the same iridescent visual movement, or “flip,” you see when you turn finished veneers in the light, and the subtle woodgrain textures you see on well-finished natural woods and veneers.

“We are thrilled to receive the Red Dot 2023 Award for Product Design,” said Robert Kolar, President at Toppan Interamerica. “KIRI Veneer hits our fundamental value to bring life and beauty to everything we do. Our team designs and delivers products that contribute to environmental conservation at the global scale in the hope of building a more sustainable society. This award is a testament to our entire team and strategic partners who have worked tirelessly to create a product that is not only functional but also beautiful and climate positive.”

Adopting KIRI veneer offers the beauty and feel of natural wood veneer while reducing the overall environmental impact by more than five times! Accepting KIRI in place of a traditional veneer means a significant reduction of hardwood trees being harvested, resulting in more CO2 sequestered annually.

“We are proud to be recognized by the Red Dot Award for our commitment to innovation and design excellence,” said Allison Jenesky, Design Manager, “We look forward to continuing to develop products that meet the needs of our customers while also promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility.”
