ABC Shark Tank Investors Pitched by MDF Phone Booth Office Cube Start-up

LOS ANGELES
 — Cubicall, a custom phone booth manufacturer based in Los Angeles, appeared May 10 on ABC's investor reality show, "Shark Tank," where brothers and co-founders Nick and Anthony Pucci pitched their concept of sound-proof in-office phone booths as a way of giving privacy and restoring order for workers in noisy open-plan offices.

The pair sought $350,000 for a 10 percent equity stake in their business, which produces the phone booths from MDF laminate fabricated into boxes with bifold glass door fronts. In front of a national TV audience, the Pucci brothers impressed the Sharks – five business pros including Mark Cuban – with their efficient privacy solution that addresses the shortcomings of open-office design.

Open-office floor plans represent 70-80% of offices around the world. While the modern design became popular due to its perceived benefits, recent research into the trend has revealed its shortcomings, namely employees are less productive, unhappy with their work environment, and disengaged.
