The CPA Scholarship Program, in memory of Robert E. Dougherty, is proud to announce the recipients of the 2010 awards. Logan M. Bernart (Oregon State University), Michael Kofoed (University of British Columbia), Robert A. Haupt (Virginia Tech), Richard Mosier (Oregon State University) and Scott Vasey (Pittsburg State University) will each receive a $5,000 scholarship.

“Being one of the five recipients of the CPA scholarship is an honor for me,” says Vasey. “Receiving the CPA scholarship will help reduce my financial burdens and provide assistance as I continue pursuing my education. This summer I have an internship with an architectural millwork company in Houston, Texas, and I hope during this time will help me to decide what goals I want to achieve in the future.”

The program received 10 applications from juniors, seniors or graduate students enrolled in a forest products, wood science, wood technology, chemistry, mechanical engineering or industrial engineering curriculum.

“The Robert E. Dougherty Educational Foundation Scholarship award helps me continue my undergraduate studies in wood products processing at the University of British Columbia,” says Michael Kofoed. “Through the department’s co-operative education program, I have recently enjoyed work placements in wood products research environments and understand the importance of knowledge and innovation in the industry today. In the near future, I am interested in gaining some technical experience in a wood products manufacturing plant to complement my research experience. Together, such placements will support my long-term goal of taking on a managerial role at a wood products company.”
