Message from Schattdecor Inc.'s Marketing Manager Margie Drazen:

We are coming into the final stretch on the Schattdecor facility in St. Louis. The team from Rotodecor continues to work on the printing press and will finalize the installation in December. All external glass work has been completed and the elevator has been installed. The tiling in the offices and bathrooms has been completed and all of the plumbing fixtures are in place. We will be wrapping everything up in the next month so we can move into the new facility. In the next few weeks the flooring, fixtures and cabinets will be installed and all of the doors will be hung. The installation of the press will soon be finalized and the calibration will begin. Our project leaders and the construction company will do their final walk through at the end of the month. After that, Schattdecor Inc. will officially be located at 13950 Riverport Place Drive, Maryland Heights, MO 63043.

After much anticipation, the new Schattdecor facility in St. Louis received its decor paper printing press in fall 2010 and began the installation process. The team from Rotodecor has made a great deal of progress (see timeline below), and the facility is on track to open in the first quarter of 2011. 

In addition to the work on the press, in the last month crews finished installing all mechanical piping, all asphalt work around the perimeter of the building and all HVAC systems in the warehouse and production area. Next workers will install the elevator and complete all tiling, drywalling and painting work in the offices and restrooms. Cabling, wiring and landscaping are among the work to finish.

Following a temporary hold on construction of its new printing facility in St. Louis, Mo., Schattdecor restarted the project in recent months thanks to an upturn in new orders. The facility is scheduled to be up and running in the first quarter of 2011. 

"We will be printing the standard Schattdecor saturating-grade paper in St. Louis. This is our decorative paper that can be used in HPL, TFM and flooring," says Margie Drazen of Decor USA, the exclusive agency for Schattdecor in North America. "There is a possibility in the future we will print our foil papers here and do some digital printing, which Schattdecor currently does in Germany. We will be installing one press, and we will print the basics to get the ball rolling."

The timeline below shows construction milestones to date. Surface & Panel will track progress into the first quarter of 2011, when the facility is scheduled to be up and running.

Dec. 3, 2010 – All exterior glass is complete.

Dec. 3, 2010 – All dry walling is complete, and the office walls are painted.

Dec. 3, 2010 – Installation of the press continues.

Nov. 22, 2010 – Chestnut trees are planted in the Biergarten located on the Schattdecor facility's grounds.

Nov. 1, 2010 – All exterior glass will be installed in early November.

Nov. 1, 2010 – Installation of the press is underway inside the new building.

Oct. 15, 2010 – Schattdecor employees and the construction team take a well-deserved break for a traditional Bavarian Weißwurst breakfast.

Oct. 13, 2010 – The press arrives and is carefully unloaded from the delivery truck.

Sept. 28, 2010 – Laying of asphalt and concrete at the construction site has been completed. Next month all HVAC work in the office, production area and warehouse will be completed. Landscaping will begin, the remaining windows and exterior glass will be installed and the elevator will go in near the entrance of the building. 

Sept. 16, 2010 – All wall frames are up in the office area. Installation of drywall, electrical and data cabling is underway.

Sept. 16, 2010 – The area in the production hall where the press will be installed is prepped.

Sept. 16, 2010 – Windows are installed in the production and warehouse end of the building.

Sept. 8, 2010 – Installation of walls, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical piping and electrical continues throughout September with an early-October install date expected for the press.

Sept. 8, 2010 – the cement has been poured for the three levels of offices. Wall frames are set up across the entire interior of the plant, and installation of drywall is underway.

Sept. 3, 2010 – The exterior is painted, the roofing is completed and the asphalt is laid.

Aug. 28, 2010 – The foundation for the printing press is approved and readied for setting and installation.

July 30, 2010 –  Work on the roof continues and discussions began about installing steel plates where the printing press will sit. 

July 23, 2010 – The steel support structure for the walls and roof went up.

June 23, 2010 – An aerial view of the new facility shows construction progress on the new printing facility for Schattdecor Inc., the identity of Schattdecor in North America as of July 1.

June 23, 2010 – The exterior walls of the new U.S. printing facility have all been tilted up. Installation of the steel structure that will serve as the support for the walls and roof is underway. 

May 28, 2010 – All the walls for the electrical auxiliary building were tilted up along with 21 wall sections for the rest of the building.

May 24, 2010 – The building is starting to take shape. Thanks to some cooperative weather in St. Louis, the first walls went up. 

May 8, 2010 – The forms for the walls are being built. The forms for the back end of the building have been built and the tilt-up concrete walls have been poured.

May 1, 2010 – The foundation slab is complete and work continues on the middle section where the printing presses will be installed.

April 13, 2010 – The foundation of the entire building is poured in three sections. The section in the back of the building is complete, and pouring of the front section has begun.

April 1, 2010 – The foundation is poured around the edges where the building walls will be placed. Preparation of the ground commences in the middle section where the printing presses will be installed.

March 13, 2010 – The construction crew begins to move the dirt off the existing concrete support piles put into the ground in 2009.

 

February 13, 2010 – The project is no longer on hold, and the team waits for good weather in St. Louis to resume progress on the site.
